Despite having bought the game back in 2020, there are a lot of features in the sims 4 I haven’t explored, one of those being lot traits. So that’s what I’m going to do today!
I’ve played breifly with lot traits in the past, but not much. Recently, I’ve been playing in an apartment in San Myshuno that has the ‘needs tlc’ lot challenge.
To tell you the truth, I haven’t found this one all that challenging. Something breaks or I get some kind of pest infestation, I call the landlord and they come and fix it. Job done. The most challenging part of this lot challenge so far has been having to move the fridge every time the fusebox malfuntions so that the landord can get to it – I furnished the apartment with moveobjects on, and it was in the way of where I wanted the fridge! Of course, I’ve only really experienced the one lot trait, so I needed to try out some more before I could fairly judge them. Here’s how it went…

This is the Sim I’m going to be using, Gia. I just randomised her and edited her outfits. Her traits and name are randomised, too.
We’re starting in spring, and I’ve moved her into a starter home in Willow Creek. Now to go into build mode and look at those lot traits!
I realised I’ve never actually had a proper look at the lot traits in build and buy before, so this was fun for me! I decided to start with the Penny Pixies trait. If you’re not familiar I’ll put the description of the trait below;

Since this lot trait gave us some extra cash, I decided to set the household funds at a low amount – I went with §100 – to see if the lot trait would make any significant difference to our funds. Now we start with the gameplay!
Day 1
Since Gia and I were on a budget, I decided the best course of action would be to serve up some food while we still had the money. As we were doing that, the Welcome Wagon came along! And Luna Villareal, for some reason…

If you were wondering, Gia doesn’t like fruitcake! But as she sat down to eat it, I noticed §5 pop into the household funds. I wasn’t expecting to see the effects of this lot trait so early on – we’re still only on the first day! But, as we all know, some people in this life are just users. Some people being Travis Scott, who apparently decided our modest windfall was reason to raid our fridge.

§5 isn’t exactly going to pay our grocery bill, Travis. Not that Gia minded I suppose, because later on she started flirting with him of her own accord. This is what I get for randomising her traits! After Travis went home, we went for a jog and, having recivied no more suprise donations, closed the day off and went to bed.
Day 2
We woke up bright and early the next morning, feeling… flirty? Again?

If it wasn’t already clear, Gia does have the Romantic trait!
Having no obligations for the day, I decided to just speed up time and give Gia free reign. She ate some breakfast and decided to read for a while, until Summer Holiday paid us a visit. Gia passed some time chatting with Summer and reading, most of the day being unevenful until another §3 dropped into our household funds! After that, Gia grabbed some food out of the fridge, but decided against eating it and opted to leave it out on the table instead. Fair enough.

Passing the evening with some TV, Gia eventually decided to eat her eggs and toast and headed off to bed, rounding off another day.
Day 3
Day 3 dawned bright and beautiful, bringing us to the usual morning business of breakfast and little bit of TV. Day 3 also brought a new discovery; the penny pixies trait can give your sims mood buffs!

It’s not the most exciting thing to happen to us so far, but I didn’t know this could happen! Having had a rather boring day 2, I decided to keep up the excitment and take Gia out for the day, to see if we could still expect our deposit after being out of the house for a while. We decided to head into San Myshuno for some karaoke, and after introducing herself to a few Sims, Gia sang a duet with Mortimer Goth.

They were awful.
After singing a few solos, it was happy hour, so of course we had to go and take a seat at the bar!

We chatted with Geoffrey Landgraab for a while, and headed home at around 9pm. The rest of the evening passed with nothing of note, and as I suspected, no pocket money.
Day 4
I decided to spend one more day with this lot trait, just to see if we’d get any more money from a stay-at-home day. We did the usual breakfast and TV before Travis dropped by. Gia chatted with Travis into the evening, before heading off to bed. No spare change today!
My Thoughts
We made §5 total profit using this lot trait for four sim days, so while you certainly couldn’t make a living from your Penny Pixies, small change can add up over time! This was really fun! Playing with features you wouldn’t normally use stops the game from getting boring, plus this reminded me how fun spontaneous gameplay can be! I didn’t go into this with any plan for what I wanted to do, so letting the sims take control sometimes can be interesting. I think I’m going to look more into lot traits and challenges in the future – I still want to have a go playing off – the – grid!
Until next time 🙂
